Allotments 4 All

Good afternoon all - please accept my apologies for not visiting for some time.

I have a conundrum!

I have some mature (well cropping) asparagus crowns in the ground but they crop is generally spindly and the crowns are over-grown with grass (cooch - I think).

Once this years harvest is over should I very carefully lift and move the crowns to somewhere more suitable - I had thought about using them as a kind of boundary for my crop rotations - or do I just deal with the problem by perpetual hoeing and scraping. I'm thinking moving as I could then give the crowns a much needed feed of manure.

In case you're wondering they have been allowed to get overgrown because they are on an allotment that was vacant for 2 years right at the top end of the plot (next to the grassy path).

I replanted my crowns when bed was couch infested... crept in when I was poorly. Lost a year but back on form now...

replanted mine earlier this year from the lotty to the garden so i can keep my eye on them. they were all about 4 yrs old and doing well. no problems with transplanting, but i will wait until next year to harvest as i did have to butcher the roots to get them out. this year i will enjoy ferns in the border  :-\
