Allotments 4 All

     Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with this variety  ?

From what I´ve read they split easily, but the taste is supposed to be good, I´m tempted to grow one plant!!

I would not touch it with a bargepole!! It is insipid taste wise, and is very prone to Blight. I grew it for several years running, under the same conditions as Sungold, and it was always the same. It is nothing like as good as Sungold, which is supposed to be one of its parents. :'(

Oh dear what a shock, I just planted this one last week and was expecting it to be like Sungold but bigger.....bother . XX Jeannine

Jeanine, I grew this the  last 2 years and they were lovely, as  you said, just like sungold but normal size. I can't be fussed with cherry toms as I like a decent sized ( and tasty!!) tom :) esp for cooking if you need to peel them ::)
They were really tasty and I will def be growing them again.

I grew it a couple of years ago and waited with excitement for nice big sungold flavoured toms. Very disappointing - poor flavour, nothing like sungold. I wouldn't grow it again.

Isn't it odd such a wide difference, could it be soil or fertilser or? Mine are in along with all the others so I shall have to wait and see XX Jeannine

I don't think so. I grew mine in the same conditions and same greenhouse as sungold. The sungold were lovely, the sungella were most certainly not.

I have some Tangella, which is a medium sized Tangerine coloured tomato with a good flavour... if you'd like to try a couple, you can always save seed from them if you like them...

Can anyone say they can match sungold for intense taste and sweetness from another variety ?

My no 2 is golden cherry, which is slightly more acid than sungold, but still really tasty.

Im trying Matts wild cherry, from simpsons seeds, which is a close relative of the original tomatoes from brazil i think.  They are small red cherries, so will be looking forward to trying those !

I have planted about 20 different toms  as I usually do but really wanted the Sungella as it was billed a bigger better sungold.Serves me right I guess for wnting too much XX Jeannine

Jeanine, another larger yellow one was Golden sunrise. I planted them last year and they were good.
Can send you a few seeds if you like ( think I've got some left)
But I always find the flavour of outdoor grown tomatoes far superor to the ones from the greenhouse.
Maybe that might explain the difference ???

Aha, I got Sungella and Golden Sunrise in the Wyevale 25p madness.  Mine are all grown outside so I hope Terri's theory is right.  It'll be interesting to compare notes later on.

Hi Terri, I don't know Golden Sunrise but I would love a few seeds,

I have to search through all my tomato seeds for swaps,I had my seed case stolen a couple of weeks ago from the lottie, case did not turn up but a lot of my seeds have.The packets ,which fortunatly I had put in individial plastic zippy bags ,had blown all over the site.Word had got around and folks keep finding them and getting them back to me, I am hoping when I go today more might have turned up.

No way, I grew Sungella last year and it was gorgeous. Grew sungold and gardeners delight too. Be a bit stingy on the watering in the last couple of weeks. I am definately growing these again. Also, for blight sufferers, I have been growing Ferline for the last three years although I have never had blight. They are also bloody good.

I also have some Orange banana seeds that were really good that I will send as well if you like.
Bought from real seeds about 3 years ago - then last year I bought a few more AND saved my own, so have quite a few now.
Good orangey red in colour - sort of plum'ish shape, great taste - though again better grown out doors than in  GH -  im(very)ho ;D ::)
