Mini lean-to

For the last few years I've used four-shelf plastic mini greenhouses quite successfully.  The only problem is that the covers don't seem to last very long before they split and I can never seem to find the right-sized replacement covers.  So I'm thinking of investing in an aluminium framed lean-to with polycarbonate glazing.  I've found one which would suit my needs (it is the largest I can accommodate) on the following site:

I can get 10% off and the postage is £5. Is this a fair price do you think?

Georgie, i am very sure that you will be able to get a better price than that in a DIY store or garden centre, do shop around a bit G.  Good luck with it , i am sure someone on here will be able to guide you to a link etc.

Have you not thought of buying a greenhouse ? For a little bit more money you could afford a small one.  :)

Well I've tried on Google, Rosebud, but this is the most versatile and suitable one I've seen so far.

I don't have room for a greenhouse, legend, my garden is tiny.

You could always move your garden into one of my greenhouses, if you like G! ::)

I think it looks really neat - you'd get a lot in it with all those shelves  - ideal for a small garden & with 10% off not too bad a deal - IMHO  :)

Georgie

Thanks Mary.  What I particularly like is the half-length shelves to accommodate taller plants and the opening vents at the top.  The last plastic type I bought is about the same size and cost me £30 a couple of years ago.  So this would need to last about 9 years to be good value for money.

No idea on price, but you can get 7% off if you go via Quidco, assuming you are not using a cashback site to get the 10%.

hi georgie,

I have a 4 teir mini greenhouse myself and the covers lasted 2 years and i found a replacement for under £10 and i got 2 smaller ones from freecycle that i need to work out how to put together...

Have you though about making your own with wood.

I have a plan in one of my books if you want me to breach copyright and photocopy it for you  ;D

Georgie

Thanks Hex, I'll look into that.

Hi Cam.  In the good old days I was organised and I'd probably have noted down the manufacturer of my last model and ensured that spare covers were available.  Now I'm of a certain age even if I did this (and I may well have done) I wouldn't remember where I'd filed away the details!  And I've had a look but can't find spare covers that look 'right' for my current model.  As for making one, don't make me laugh.  I still haven't got around to painting the kitchen since it was totally refitted two years ago!   ::)

G - Robert Dyas are really good for the replacement covers for your mini-greenhouse - they do the normal plastic ones and the re-inforced ones as well, with the "gridded" plastic.

My cats took a liking to basking on top of one of mine last year and covered the roof with holes as they dug in. I just fixed some clear bubblewrap inside it. Worked a treat.

That looks lovely Hex  :)  I'm feeling quite envious  ;)

That looks like a good one if you want something for seed trays alone as from what I can see it doesn't have shelves.  I need something that can accommodate seeds I've potted on, cuttings and larger plants which need a frost-free environment over-winter.

Showed my DH who has offered to make me one instead which is great - he is brilliant at these things.  We can't have a full size greenhouse without getting planning permission - joys of a conservation area, so struggling for options.  Daft thing is we could probably get away with a polytunnel as it is a temporary structure but I don't want to ruin the look of the area.

I need something for seeds, cuttings and toms/aubergines etc but don't want to buy something plasticy if you see what I mean or I would be off to Aldi this week.

Georgie

You lucky thing.   ;D  Hope you are going to post a picture when it's finished?
