Great stuff...is that a lazy bed I spy on the right hand size?
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

What a huge plot
How exciting to have such a blank canvas
Do post more pictures to show how it changes - good luck

sawfish

Your so lucky its just grass and not an 'encyclopedia' of weeds you have to get rid of like I did. It'll be great fun getting it up and running.

if only it was just grass! before I hacked everything down it looked quite a lot like your 'before' pics, sawfish! I've got dock, brambles, nettles, thistles, ground elder, couch, mystery weeds (probably bindweed) and the tall thing with the purple flowers (rosebay willowherb?). the only area that is just grass is in front of the apple trees, the rest of the green is baby weeds starting to grow back ::)

(the first pic I took is here: http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,91/topic,27672.0)

Looks like a great plot. Is it quite remote? Are there houses behind you?
Yes send us some updates. please.

Well done Norfolk Lass. The worse it is initially the more you love it when its done.

How big is the space?

norfolklass

it's about 90 feet long. the back apple tree end is about 38 feet wide, then haflway down the plot the boundary fence goes off at an angle so the front gate end is about 68 feet wide. my plan is to turn the extra triangle bit into a bit of a wildlife area, with my compost and muck heaps and an old bath as a pond. eventually...

the site is on the edge of town with a train line and houses at the top end, but my plot is at the bottom next to some woods and a stream. I had a proper wander about last weekend to see what everyone else was up to, and I do love my plot the best! especially as people have told me that the guy who had it before me did nothing to it for years. he's been over a couple of times to see what I've been doing and (although it could just be me) he does seem to look around at all the space a bit wistfully!

sawfish

Your situation seems quite like mine. Huge unusually shaped plot unused for years, near a railway with an old man who used to have it wistfully visiting.

Plots are often near railways as the land used to be given to railway workers by the railways as a way of supplementing their income by growing veg.

Thats also why a lot of plots have a horsetail problem (luckily mine is really minimal). This is because railways used to use horsetail to bind the earth around tracks to make the sleepers more solid as it has such a strong root system.

The soil looks good. At least you have a nice level plot, reasonably clean too.
Took a while to get mine level & cleared from the crap left behind from my predecessor. :(

Looks like you have done a lot of hard work, Norfolklass, I think I recognise where your plot is - I shall try & spot your next time I am passing by.  :)
