at B+Q  bags of seed/cutting compost 2 for £5 seed potatoes 2 for £5 range is a bit limited I bought charlotte and fourmost also budget seeds 38p a packet
I got mixed radish and busy lizzy. allright if you want small amountsI find

good bargains, what size are the seed/cutting compost? are the seed potatoes 3kg bags?

compost is in 55k bags,pentland jav in 2.5 k net charlotte no wieght but less

Couldn't really afford to pay the full price for seed potatoes last year, but if you wait until the last knockings, B&Q usually reduce their seed potatoes to about 25p/bag, the range is limited and they have shoots but I got a decent crop from them.

The2 bags 55ltr of compost for a fiver, is not the bargain it looks, as they also do 175ltr for £6.95   the first is 22ltr per £1.00. the second is 25ltrs per £1.00.

AT the end of feb last year we picked up golden gourmet shallot sets for 10p (a bag , 10 ish sets) from B&Q! Grew very well - may buy a few full rpice to be on the safe side. :)

Is it B&Qs own compost. I never have good results with their MP compost. The last time I used it for my pots I didn't have flowers on my Abutilons & the hanging baskets were rubbish too. When I told a friend who is knowledgable about these things she said not to use B&Q or Focus.
I bought some bloom peat from the £ shop. It's made from coir & you put it in a bucket with 10ltrs water & use it for seeds. It was 50p for 2 blocks.

I've seen those coir bricks in a seed catalogue - how do they work?  Would it take the place of compost/potting medium to sow seeds into a seed tray?

B&Q  came out on top on tests that were done last year. No I do not work there, orange does not suit me and people kep having a punch at you there ;D

The coir bricks can be used for sowing seeds. It doesn't contain any nutrients so you have to water with a dilute nutrient solution. They also help to neutralise acid soils. At 50p for 16ltrs I thought it was worth a go.

I often use the B&Q stuff, it's fine

I always use those big B&Q bags (175ltr) - about three a year, in fact.

Bit of advice, though - the first bags of the season are usually last year's from storage. I use that more as a mulch, or mixed with other stuff as a dressing or a bulker-upper, rather than a planting medium.

If you can, I'd advise waiting till the fresh stock comes in for sowing or planting up.

I also use the 175litre bags but they do need sieving for seed germination use.

Another B&Q bargin.  Sun Tunnel for £4.99 (reuced from £7.99).  Kind of a plastic greenhouse/cloche, about 4 feet long.
