Allotments 4 All

Took these yesterday. What they are like now I am not going to look until the wind dies down!

Eric. Really beautiful. I am still waiting for mine (that you kindly sent me last year in the green) to appear. I can't see any reason that I may have lost them as I reported to you last year they definitely seemed to take well. Should I be worried? Or is there still time?

Great aren't they.. we must go out and have a look at Dimminsdale again...
We tried to establish a bed of them in our shady dell at the bck of the lottie but people kept diging themselves pots full....

I had exactly the same problem at one time; I know what it feels like.

Lorna, they should at least be above ground, even if not in flower yet. If they do not grow I will send you some more to try again with!

Eric. Thank you so much. I will check every day. I was very careful and even sticked and labelled the area I planted them in to make sure I didn't disturb them.

I have just one lonely snowdrop in flower. :(

There's a certain temperature.. around 5 degrees? that it needs to be below for a good month or two before they decide to come up and flower, so I'm told. It's just not been cold enough this year. I think I may just get daffs, tulips, alliums and snowdrops all in flower together at this rate. *boggle*

There's a wide range of flowering times; you may have just the one plant of an earlier cultivar.

dad, the consensus is you have far too many  ;).  If of course you would like some assistance with removing some I now have plenty of space....
lovely as always, remains one of my most envied bits of your garden.

If I could post the pictures you would see what it looks like now with no Damson trees!

Oh dear Palustris, what a horrid picture the 'after' one is.  I think we were fairly lucky.  Without electricity for about 12 hours, but no major damage.

Saddad, is the Dimminsdale you mention in an earlier posting the one in the Alton/Oakamoor area of North Staffs?

No sorry it is on the Derby/Leics border round they back of Calke Abbey (NT)..
the name is a corruption of Demon's Dale... an area of Lime quarrying and Smelting in the 18th Century.

We will have to have a look out for that  - we keep planning a visit to Calke Abbey.

Sad to see the trees down, shout if you need a hand with clearing. 

I am really pleased to say that, like Lornas, mine have been slow to appear, I now have three patches with maybe a hundred in each one, plus one lonely one under one of the apple trees.
