Hi all,
I´m new to flower gardening (apart from companions for my veggies like callendula and such!!) I have offered to grow some red and yellow flowers (Spain colours!) for a friends wedding. Any advice on what would make good wedding flowers?
Thanks in advance for helping a clueless novice flower gardener   ::)

What time of year is the wedding? It will be a decider in which flowers will be best.

Middle June!! better get sowing now! I'm in Spain and I've got a greenhouse, do you think I've got enough time??

My friend wants pots of flowers which Ill decorate, to give to guests, so they wont be cut flowers!

That sounds a nice idea.  I suppose any of the red and yellow annuals - yellow marigold, nasturtiums, red busy lizzies, begonias, kalanchoe, would dahlias be ready earlier in Spain?  It is hard to think about summer flowers at the moment, how big would the pots be and are they to be indoor or outdoor plants?  Lots to think about...

Thanks! I dont know about the size! Its up to me!! What do you think? I think outside flowers would be better in decorated teracotta pots. What would you do?

I would go for outside flowers too I think.  Could you tie bows on them in the wedding colours too, or paint them - it depends how many you are doing too, they could end up taking up a lot of space.  Is the bride wearing white that you could add some white lobelia to echo her dress, or what colour are any bridesmaids wearing?  I am enjoying having my mind taken off Christmas!  I imagine others will post with some ideas later but they are probably all out shopping etc at the moment, the board seems busier in the evenings at the moment.

Are there aother plants that grow well in Spain that we don't have so much here?

Red pelargoniums too would be easy to root from cuttings.

I shall keep thinking...

Tulippa, you are a star! I´m geting excited about this now, not so worried!! I think the plants should be quite compact, tall flowers would be a problem! Know what you mean about crimbo, gets in the way!!!! ;)
