Just had mail from my niece asking if one of my friends on A4A can ID (just shows how I am always talking about A4A :))

Palustris

It is one of the forms of Pesicaria as far as I can see. Not sure which one as there are a lot and some of them are native weeds.

It looks like what I know as knotweed.  Don't know if that's the same thing.

Thank you. Eric, so basically a weed?  No point in her keeping it then?

weeds are only those plants which tend to be invasive or plentiful (depending on your point of view) and if you like a plant then that's all that is needed to cultivate it and appreciate it  ::)

Some weeds are nice, if they aren't too invasive. Evening primrose, great mullein, borage and feverfew are all 'licensed weeds' in some parts of my plot.

Palustris

I made no judgement of the quality of the plant only making an identification.

There are cultivated types of knotweed, and others that grow wild!  ;D
