My peas are a  4 or 5" tall now - is it safe to plant out and cover with fleece at night? ???

Fingle....

I thought Fleeces were to stop birds / insects eating the plants...not some sort of duvet ??

According to the Organic Gardening Catalogue -
QuoteThe main purpose of EnviroFleece [a brand of polypropylene fibre cloth] is to protect against frost and to encourage early growth by increasing the temperature around the plants.
QuoteEnviroMesh is primarly a pest barrier.......It will give some frost and wind protection, but not as much as fleece.

I'm sure they'll be very snug - perhaps I'll chance it and put them out this w/e, making sure to tuck them in!

Fingle you've scared me now! :o

At that size I would definitely put them out.

I generally find birds & slugs/snails a bigger menace than frost.
