ive read on here that you shouldnt move rhubarb to the colder months , but would it damage it if i moved it sooner as we want to put in the corner of the allotment as it takes up a decent sized bed and need to re-arrange things over coming months

It dies back after the first frosts, and you can move it then without worrying. one tradition I don't subscribe to, partly because of the immense size and weight of my rhubarb roots, is to lift them in autumn to allow the roots to be frosted. Alternatively you could probably get away with it now if necessary, but the soil is still so dry, at least where I am, that I wouldn't want to unless it was an emergency.

If its a big plant you could also split it into two.

I was told not to pull any stalks the season following the move.

I  moved mine about this time last year and put it under an apple tree in the hopes that it would calm it down a bit. Massive great roots, hacked half of them away and buried the rest next to the trunk.

It  sprang out of the ground as usual in the spring, and I have been picking it to give away. If anything, it is looking rather fresher than it used to, possibly bcause of the shade.

PHILL. If you need to move the rhubarb now you could try this method.
Lift your rhubarb crown and Davide it into pieces bearing one or more buds
and freeze them. When your work is complete replace the crowns with plenty of manure
