My mangetour are starting to suffer from some sort of white mould that's spreading all over.  My pal who has a plot next door but two to us has a similar thing on his sweetpeas and gooseberries, and is spraying them with some sort of copper solution, but has also suggested bicarb of soda.   What's it likely to be, what's the best way to get rid if it, and can I still eat the mangetout?

Sorry -  no pics.  Am off work with tonsilitis, so unable to get out to the lottie   :(

It sounds like powdery mildew, and I've heard that bicarb helps. Have a look at http://plantclinic.cornell.edu/FactSheets/powdery/powdery.htm . Another thing you can do is try to ensure good air circulation round plants, as it likes stagnant moist air.

Sounds like Powdery Mildew to me as well, but always found the Mangetout likeOregon to be far more resistant than normal peas

Thanks for that -  it certainly looks like powdery mildew.  I'll hopefully be able to get up there and spraying in the next couple of days
