Hello again!

My squashes are now setting fruit  ;D Does everyone else put straw under the developing squashes to protect from rot??

Cheers!

Hello, I don't bother but probably should.  :)
Make the most of today, because you'll never have it back again.

In a way ... I mulch with straw or black plastic, so they just sit on the mulch ::)

I put down bits of wood or tile underneath to keep them neat. Tho lately with the vandalism, we may not have pumpkins to keep tidy!  :'(
This year it's squash.

I try to make sure they're not sitting on mud. As is often the case, the first few get molly-coddled, the rest get left to themselves & I have yet to notice a difference.

Squashfan

Very true Ollie!  ;D I fuss over the first few and then eventually let the rest get on with the business of growing.
This year it's squash.

I have not bothered putting anything down ... the fruits seem ok as they are.
The impossible is just a journey away ...

I haven't put anything down, they seem happy to sit on the dust that once was my soil.

I've used some old leftover white bathroom tiles and sat them under the bigger ones....at least the ones I can see the ones that I couldn't get a tile under are sitting on straw. I have just harvested my first Kaboucha Squash which weighed in at just over 2Kg (freshweight). i thought I better harvest it as it was in full view and we've had some thefts recently at our allotments. Someone stole a glasshouse from a neighbouring allotment that was in the process of being built, it didn't have the glass in so i guess it was easier to take in that condition.
I'm hoping the plant will produce a few more it might make up for the two plants and 4 largeish squash I lost when my allotment neighbour decided to spray in a breeze and i got the drift!
