Has anyone successfully taken cuttings from ceanothus ?  I have tried at various times of year with no success.

I haven't, but I know a man who has! He sent me this in an E. Take heel cuttings in July about 4" long. Put them into a propogator with 50% peat and sand at temp of 16c. Potted on into 3" pots of J Innes to overwinter in the cold frame. Following May potted on into 5" pots and left out side until putting in the garden the following September.

Thankyou so much - I will give it a try in July.  I have had great success with other cuttings, but so far the ceanothus had thwarted me.

Just to add a little to Ken's advice. Select your cuttings from non-flowering shoots. Semi-ripe growth is ideal.

Sorry, should have mentioned that. Thanks for your addition, G. Wasn't in the E- I got but if you take cuttings regularly maybe you already new it.
