Does anyone trim back heathers after they've flower? or are they left to their own devices?

I always trim after flowering otherwise they have a tendency to get leggy & woody. I treat them like lavender, not trimming back into the old wood.

I always trim mine back and they thrive on it, rewarding me with lots of flowers next time round  :)
Sometimes we just need a helping hand!
