One of my tomatillo plants has develped a strange leaf distortion overninght, the leaf is covered in raised white bumps, and a few holes, this leaf was in top condition yesterday evening. All other leaves on this plant, and its neighbours seem fine.

Is it bacterial leaf spot? though I thought that was concave not convex on the leaf's top surface.

Whatever it is will it spread to my other solanaceae, non-solanaceae sharing the cold frame? Should I destroy the plant?

This happened to me too - when I grew them last year in the polytunnel. I dont use anything except soapy liquid for aphids - so I just picked off the worst affected leaves.... and I have to say that I was still overwhelmed by d**n tomatillos.... so don't loose any sleep!  ;D

I also grow tomatoes/aubergines/sweet peppers and chillis in there - and none of them were affected by the problem. Hope that helps.

Think its some sort of bacterial leaf spot but as Squashmad says, just pick off the affected leaves, shouldn't be a major problem.

That's what I wanted to hear, whenever I get anything I always like to get my own thoughts reaffirmed.

I am having issues with the physalis genus this year, are they particularly prone to disease? I suspect my physalis peruviana have some kind of virus, some leaves are pale for the half of the leaf nearest the stem. I have isolated them from the rest of my plants.

We had the same all over the tomatillos last year, and just as squashmad says still had a bemper crop.
We were worried it would affect the nearby tomatoes but no problems there either. Ugly little 'infection' but the tomatillos tasted great! ;)
We just kept picking off the worst affected leaves

Good Luck

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. (Douglas Adams 1952 - 2001)

Now that the tomatillos have started to put on a bit of growth, they too are showing two-tone leaves.

When you plant them, what sized pot is needed; do they get planted 'deep', or simply to the base of the first true leaves?

Also got some Giant Guatemalan Groundcherries on the go - but they ain't. For the past month they have sat at 1/2"-1" high, doing nowt! First they were inside (germinated happily), then in the greenhouse, then that seemed too cold so they went on an inside west windowsill... now I don't know what to do with them! Little leaves seem to go papery then shrivel... too cold in the greenhouse? too hot in the house? too much light in the house? I haven't over-watered them. What am I doing wrong  ???
