Using space on allotment

Had a bit of an idea recently, and since I want to grow more tender things, like aubergines etc this year, and have no greenhouse, decided to make a plastic covered cloche. Had no space though.
Realised that compost bins faced south and thought that if the back faced south instead, I could use the space better. After a lot of work, and with help, the back of the bins was taken off and placed at the front. One cloche has been built - all materials scavenged except for the plastic sheeting, so I will have to wait until I find some more before another is built. Here are pics of what it did look like and what it looks like now:
(I now fill up the bins from the path side at the back)

That's a good idea that also worked well in reality ;)

I have 2 or 3 metres of clear plastic that I don't need (I was using it to warm the soil, but being clear it also propagates the weeds >:()  If you are interested PM me your details.

Nice idea -I guess you might get a bit of benefit from the bins in terms of heat -if only as therma mass. Maybe a bed shop for the plastic sheeting? I'm using the stuff my parents mattresses came in.

Ooh you snob jenny, showing us that you're a two-barrow family. Seriously though, I like it. A nice bit of thinking.  ;D

Geoff.
You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can't upset them all at once either.

im sure i read some where that they had been to a builders merchants and got the plastic covering they used to cover the more vunerable materials with !!!

i cant remeber who it was but they had originally gone to the builders merchants to buy some plastic !!! maybe worth a bit of a read through
