as u may know, our garden is still a working progress, decking should be finished next week, then we're starting to make raised beds, shall i wait until they are done or do i start my onion sets offs in pots and transplant when ready? i don't want to leave them too long and it may be a couple more weeks until beds are finished.

Curryandchips

start off in pots, or even just in compost in seed trays. The onions will just develop roots and possibly a bit of green up top, and can be transplanted easily in a few weeks ...
The impossible is just a journey away ...

Hi Gem/all,
We make a habit of starting our onions in single containers, and then planting out.
Last year i planted started sets by the side of directly planted sets, and found the started sets by far superior.
       Hope that helped.

                           Regards,
                                  Mark.
i`m not "young enough" to know everything !
