Allotments 4 All

I have just cleared out my drawers  (titter! ;D ) ... and shredded about 10yrs worth of bank statements and credit card bills.

Can I use the shredded paper for mulching or will my vegetables have an adverse reaction to correspondence from Barclaycard and The Halifax Building Society?

And I've never actually 'mulched' before. When, how and why do I do it?
