Anyone  know where to get decent gardening boots from, not wellies. I have beem using cheap walking boots but the soles are quite thin and they have started to leak.

I like rigger boots myself; warm, rugged and waterproof.

You could try workwear stockists for steel toecap boots.  Cheapest I've seen is around £13 and as with everything, the sky's the limit.

I think you can also get boots with a reinforced instep if you're into lots of digging.

I wear a cheap pair of steel toecaps and a right sight I look too.

Happy Shopping!

Wellies for me, as I never know when I'm going to need to go into the stream at the bottom. But I'd agree that steel toecaps would be a good idea.

I use old walking/climbing boots....not mine of course but daughters offcasts. ;)
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Get your old boots fitted with a clog sole at Walkleys Clogs in Mytholmroyd near Halifax W. Yorks. I don't know if they do mail order, but being Yorkshiremen they will if there's a profit in it. If anyone is interested in the idea, I will pop in next time I'm passing and put it to them, they are very helpful and friendly, I'm sure they would.

They are normally fur lined (warm in winter and not sweaty in summer) with steel toe and sole, meaning stamping on a spade is not felt on the instep as with wellies (good if you have a heavy soil).

Good range here, from £21, though you can get them cheaper.

Oh and as they are safety wear they are VAT exampt, which makes them very cheap for leather boots of such quality.

Thanks, I think they are the fellas for me

I used to have some firemans wellies from army surplus - steel toecaps. I currently wear expensive gortex fell-running boots; waterproof and warm and comfy, a real struggle to put on, and carry off a ton of clay when I walk home!

Mmm and they come in size 5 too.. :)
