hello

I'm in the process of assembling a second hand greenhouse (nightmare without instructions) and although I've now got it up, there are not enough of the black seal strips which the glass rests against. Are these essential or can the glass rest safely against the metal frame? If I do need some more does anyone know where I can get them?

as well as stopping drafts and leaks, it also acts to cushion glass when the clips are in place reducing the chances of breakage and holds it firmer.
Strips can be bought in most garden centers but take a sample there are several types. ;)

My little house was 2nd hand last year. It needed new strips too - DIY shop I think, or my local Wyvale but anyway, no probs.. and, although it had been dismantled carefully, several clips went awol between old & new locations.....so praps a pack of those while you're there?

i had the same problem in a couple of areas, so i cut the strips up a bit and left gaps between smaller pieces. That way i got enough for the glass without buying any new :)

Dont have any problms with drafts or leaks either

you could always run som flexible sealant onto the frame b4 you put the glass in place!!
Wilko's sell packs of the clips "dirt"cheap, or maybe soil cheap :) :)

Thanks for all of your comments. I started putting the glass in today and will look for some replacement seal this week. I am also short of clips and the square headed nuts and bolts so I'll try Wilkos for those.

my local Wilkos had both clips & square-headed nuts & bolts today Gavin.99p per packet, I think. Must have been thinking about you! - looked for replacement seal, but no-go :( Good luck - Lishka

if not, try ebay. Just make sure you order a smany as you need all at once. Then you get postage cheaper.

You would also be able to get your seal i imagine from ebay.

I got 100 bolts for harrods horticultural I belive they do black sealing in roll form.   cut what you need I suppose. 
W clips and other replacement items are also available.

Does anyone know of a good greenhouse sealant, or is it fine to use bathroom sealant on greenhouses? I want to fill the tiny gaps between glass panes (they butt or overlap slightly), and some sort of mastic or sealant seems to be the best option. It's my first greenhouse, so any and all advice welcome, thank you :D

Wickes do an exterior sealant which should do the job.

I'll be finishing putting the glass in this weekend hopefully (depending on the weather) I'll post a picture of my masterpiece (!) when its done.
