Allotments 4 All

I'm going to grow a few plants from seed for our resident sales. Any ideas what would be the most popular ? Its just for local friends and neighbours. Thanks folks.

I think wallflowers would be good as I have real trouble trying to find the bare rooted plants you used to get in the autumn. I am going to try growing them from seed this year, but would have loved to buy them previously. I don't know how easy they are though.

Another thing would be tomato plants that someone could put on a patio if they don't have a garden.

Hi vee, wallflowers are about as easy as you get. Sow June/ July and up they come. Thin them out a bit and they will be ready to transplant about late September. Very few problems unless you get clubroot.

Yeah i'd go for Tomatoes and maybe chillies.

I grew loads of stuff for the school spring fair last year. The list included tomatoes, chillies, sweet peppers, statice, dahlia, aubergines, sweet peas and a few others.

It took two trips in may car with the rear seats down but they all sold on the day and raised a few bob, will be doing the same again this year.

Funny enough the statice flew off the stall.

Thanks Jerry, so it seems anything goes really, well I have loads of seed left over from last year of different things so I'll sew them.some veg some flower, I'll learn what the locals like as time goes on but I've a feeling if its cheap and cheerful they'll buy it.

I also sold a load of plants at the school fair last year. Anything in flower went quickly; anything not in flower needs to have a picture (or be sold to someone knowledgeable). Having some information about what to do with things was helpful  in selling things, too - I printed off a load of A4 sheets and left them on the stall for people to take away with their purchase.

We sold out, so this year will aim to produce more. I think helping with transport of the plants might have helped too - a lot of people only bought one or two plants because that was all they could carry home.

The sale will be on our green and only for neighbours so its outside their doorstep, a good tip about the info. I'll remember that.
