Have not been able to go down to my lottie as have had my gall-bladder out and have been feeling a bit delicate  :(. Im hoping to get down there by the end of the week as my garlic has arrived and needs to go in. Am worried that all the hard work will have gone to pot really.....I'd cleared the front half of the plot and put small beds in with broad beans, onion sets, winter spinach and some herbs. I'd also put in loads of daffs, tulips etc in for the spring.I should imagine Im overgown with weeds but do you think I'll be able to save stuff as it was looking quite good before the op!
The back half is all still covered ready for me to work on in the spring. Can anyone make me feel a bit better about this as I was so enjoying it before this and cant wait to get going again. I have a small troupe of nephews and nieces who are willing helpers so think that i'll need to get themover this weekend whilst I sit and issue orders!! ;D

I think you will be fine as not many weeds are growing at this time of the year and as you have already cleared the ground I would think it would be ok till the spring. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.
Look after yourself so that you're fit and healthy for the spring. I hope things go well for you

Petra, First of all having an allotment is supposed to be a leisure activity and you shouldn't be feeling stressed about it; above all things your health comes first.  Secondly, you sound well on top of things.  Your winter veggies should be fine and as Vee says it is winter and your weeds shouldn't be growing now so you might be pleasantly surprised when you go over. On top of that to have nieces and nephews who are willing helpers is a fantastic bonus, so you have absolutely nothing to be concerned about.

Have a leisurely walk over there the next fine day and take all your willing helpers over there with you, and let them plant your garlic for you.  Ensure a responsible person keeps you in check and stops you from exerting yourself.  Remember you are there just to look, enjoy the fresh air and just revel in being back; think of it as a tonic.  You take care of yourself and get your strength back, the allotment will be there in the spring and you can get stuck in then.  :) busy_lizzie

Petrta, the plot is not going anywhere, and neither will all the work you have put into it so far. Get the crew down there this weekend and that in itself will put a smile back on your face. And don't dare do anything yourself yet !    ;)

It looks like you are getting loads of good advice, I would hesitate to better what has already been said !!!

If you are feeling constructive, then why not take some short canes down with you, and you can start marking out where the various things are going to be. I always intend to do this, so I have a clearer plan of what will fit where, but it never actually happens, and then it is panic stations when I have to put something where I never intended it to be.

Remember that you do have time on your side, particularly now, so concentrate on getting back to fitness ...

Thank you all for your kind messages, you've put my mind at rest. Ive commandeered a nephew for this weekend and he'll be digging and planting under my supervision. He's 12 and a cracking digger and loves helping out down on the lottie and good compay as well.
I'll let you know how it all looks :)

Just a quick update, finally got to the lottie and it was all looking remarkably ok much to my surprise and loads of the bulbs that I had put in are beginning to sprout now. My broad beans look ok and the onions are fine also but no sign whatsoever of the spinach....how long would that normally take to come through  ???
Would you suggest putting fleece over the beans?
Got the garlic in whilst I was there, not holding out much hope though as it has spent the last few weeks on my window-sill and could be in for a rude shock in the soil.
