We bought some seeds out of a bargain bin in Homebase this week-end at 50p per pack - they are due to go out of date in 2007/8 - and there were quite a few to choose from and well worth going through (I'm afraid I did virtually empty the bin in order to sort through and find those things that might have been of interest to me!!

Just what I need more seeds!!

Seriously though, good info. Any interesting varieties or are we talking Lettuce Webbs Wonderful etc?

no no no - don't tell me things like that. (why did I read this thread? I already have 20 varieties of tomato and about 25 of peas and beans alone for next year.) Aqui stop it there.

Good job homebase is too far for me to bother to travel on the bus!
gone to pot :D

And I was thinking of what to do tomorrow.  Homebase for seeds.  Yippee.  Can't have enough seeds, I say.

I took just about all the veg seeds off the Cardiff Homebase (Colchester Ave) last weekend at 50p each - even the multi-pack jobbies (collections with 5 different types of seed, lie  carrot, cauli, cabbage, sprout and so on).  They have already re-stocked the shelves with this year's offerings - in some cases, exactly the same varieties / brands as I got for ten bob apiece, now a snip at £2.99!!!  (Still two years left on most of my cheapies' shelf-lives).

He He He!!!

there were some interesting varieties as well as some more ordinary ones - I think it'll depend on what your homebase had left at the end - and how many A4A people have got there first!!

I reckon I'll have the Keighley store pretty much to myself tomorrow as regards A4A competitiion... :-\ ;)

I am now in seed heaven.  In went off to Homebase to find the famous 50p seeds.  They were at the checkout, not on the seed display.  Spent 10 min rumaging through and explaining to people that I am not in the checkout queue, just looking at seeds.  I bought 24 packets at 50p each.  Everything from Lettuce- Beetroot. Annual to perennial.

Then in the morning post I received another set of seeds, free from Kitchen Garden Magazine.  I've ordered 20 free packets of Seeds (flowers) from the RHS - just need to cover postage.

I shall be inundated with them. OOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhh

Yeh - I got a load from KG mag today, had totally forgotten I had ordered them! I too got loads of bargains from Homebase, not to mention the fruits of several swopsies in the swop shop....

only one solution.... need another lottie (JOKE Manuel!  ;D ;D)

The seeds from Homebase have still got 2 years shelf life on them and prices were from 99p - £2.69. It shows pkt year end 2004. I suggest everyone gets down to Homebase before they realise they have made a mistake with the years and think the 2004 date is the sell by date.

I'm just about to add my newly acquired seeds to my database.  It's like Christmas.  Little things please little minds.  ;D  ;D  ;D

Absolutely brilliant, thanks for the 'heads up'.

I got stuff that I didn't really want to pay full price for:
Okra, I reckon very dodgy to fruit, but great in a curry
Sweet Corn, Earliking, Yes wanted an alternative to Conqueror
Sunflower Giant Single for a laugh
Ipomoea 'Grandpa Otts' for climbing up two/three of the pergola posts (though I'm hoping Father Xmas will bring me some grape vines and a honeysuckle.)

And a handful of packets of flower seeds for cutting and for bees and butterflies.
Brilliant, Thanks again.
Cliff  :)
Just muddling along, trying various crops, styles etc, will repeat what works. Will try again what doesn't!!
Photo is of me ballet dancing or is it watering the strawberries?
