i havent been able to source something suitable from my homebrew shop. they only had 3 gallon buckets which are simply too large as i dont have the room at home to store such a beast. was thinking about a 1 1/2 gallon bucket. but how do i make sure it's food grade? are all clear plastic buckets suitable? i know not to use the coloured ones, but..... i found some clear plastic ones, with lid, at my local 'pound store'.

what say you - suitable or not?

Plastic films and containers of food grade quality are made from certain plastics. You may find ABS printed on it. Some plastics absorb and leach contaminants into water,
Be careful. I wouldn't buy anything for food use that isn't from UK. This link has good info on it.

Hm, interesting thread! Does the same logic follow for growing edibles in plastic containers, then? I've always wondered..
