Allotments 4 All

First year growing tomatoes, and am not sure what to do with my bush varieties (Red Alert).  The trusses are getting so heavy with the weight of the tomatoes that the branch stems are bending and I'm worried they will break.  Thing is, I have the toms on my patio in growbags so not sure how to support them more - I've got one main cane per plant in the growbag (the cane is then attached to the wall), but when I've tried to support the heavy trusses I've nearly bent/broken the branches.  Do I just leave them and hope for the best, or is there some way to support them that I don't know about (which is more likely the case!)?

PS:  But am really pleased as first few toms have now gone red  ;D ;D ;D  so not a complete failure despite the fact that new lottie is looking sad and things are dying left right and centre (courgettes included so have a heart all you lot moaning about a glut  ;) )

Hi Piglottie, been told to support my roma plants by putting 6 sticks around the plant in a circle. Tie some string around the sticks creating a circle  at two different levels. When the branches develop with the fruit rest them over the string.
Hope this makes sense. Seems to work for me.
My first year no tomatoes going red yet, come on sun do your stuff!!!

Ahhhh!  Thanks DD.   Think I might have to leave them this year as they are so bushy with loads of trusses that if I try to move them to tie them up etc I think I may risk break the branches etc.  Might try it on the smaller plant.  But will definitely know for next year, so thanks again.  Btw, my toms have only been going red in the last week, and once one has turned, they're all at it now so sure it wont be long.   :)
