we made our first raised bed and planted it a week and a half ago. today we found it full of teeny little seedlings! ;D i'm so excited! some are definately little beetroot plants but the others are harder to identify.
we planted beets, carrots, parsnips and spring onion seeds. they aren't in neat rows but in blocks. however, something did have a bit of a rummage one night early on before we wised up and put a wire mesh cage on so the seeds might be mixed up!
how do we know which are weeds?
the plot was covered in chest high weeds until we took it over a fortnight ago so we are expecting quite a few to resurface!
the seedlings are either one straight leaf (like a blade of grass) or two, tiny perfectly round leaves. any ideas? Tara xx

Svea

spring onions could pose for grass like seedlings.
brassicas could be round.

i would simply wait a bit longer until you can identify the occupants of your weed bed ;) and then weed when you are sure.
it wont take too long and wont deprive the seedlings of any goodness for too long :)

I thought the question was going to be something different that reminded me of my daftest move to date i.e.  Found some nice flowering plants so moved them next to the path to keep for polliniating insects - until someone pointed out they were old parsnips that should be dug and dumped!!  Oops   ::)

But the morale is - wait until you know what everything is for it can't do any harm!!
Neil (The Young Ones) once said "You plant the seed, the seed grows, you harvest the seed....You plant the seed....."   if only it was that simple!!!
