been eaten alive again by midges at the 'lotment.  Any tips (preventions or cures)?

Where are they coming from? Sometimes you can do something about the source. I don't usually have many on my plot, but a couple of years ago I had a plague. The water in my rain barrel had developed a green algal bloom, and a few weeks later, this cloud of midges appeared. I covered the barrel, which cut off the light and stopped the bloom, and after a couple of weeks there were no more midges.

When we were kids we used to be daubed by parents with Citronella to ward off midges etc. Worth a go!

Citronella works for me. I use the pure oil and insense sticks in the house.

Fly repellent for horses has citronella in it and I have seen flies make u-turns away from it!
gone to pot :D
