i have some sweet pepper plants grown from a packet of seeds that are doing well ...but we ate a lovely succulent pepper a few weeks ago that was  so tasty i saved the seeds and now i have lots of pepper seedlings-but on watching the allotment dvd again last night-the chap growing peppers in a big cloche said that you wouldnt get any decent plants from saved seed...how do the commercial seedsmen do it then?and how do you tell if you are trying to grow from f1 seed?do you still get plants ?
showing my ignorance here i know!
and what will i get from my saved seed?
or should i just suck it and see?
dont want to waste me time you see..or the space......

Can't help you with your question Kitty - I only ever grow non F1's and I plan to cvollect some seed from these.

But - have you got your tickets for Cardiff yet?

And I wanted to get a good start with my lottie this half term - looks like it will have to wait a day or two.

The full answer to this is beyond me-suffice to say that growing from F1 hybrids may not give `true` results-(pause to add that tomato sweet million is classed as F1 but does come true).

But that does not mean you will not get good things from seeds taken from Hybrids-it merely means there is a risk they may be slightly different.

The chap on the DVD was offering good advice to most people-but we are not `most people` ;D-we like a challenge.
