Lifted the fleece and checked the progress of my spinach (ordinary, not perpetual) yesterday, and was surprised to see 80% of the plants beginning to flower.  They're only just at the size where they've got "supermarket baby spinach" sized leaves.

I nipped of the flowers, but is it pretty much shot as far as production goes now?

Any reasons why this might have happened so quickly - lack of water?

Or am I just worrying unneccesarily?  It's the first time I've grown spinach...

I have a sinking feeling that is the end of your spinach.  Same happened to mine last year, that is why I ended up with chard and perpetual spinach.  Could be lack of water, cold snap, or root damage in transplanting if you didn't sow direct.  Still time to sow some more so all is not lost.  :-\

Hi Richard,
I think one of them sort of spinach are very easy get bolted. Especially when sowed a bit too early.Once it get leggy. So very easy get bolt as well. If you sow them later in June. It get a bit bigger but also start flower soon....I think!  It happen to me the same last year. I sowed three different lots. Only one of them flower almost straight away! >:( >:(
