I am just wondering-is this the latest anyone can remember?-or am I getting lazy? It`s June in two weeks time and my veg garden looks like early April-oh well-what do I care?-off to a health farm today? for a massage to sooth these aching limbs-back next week ;D

I envy you. I bet it'll grow while you're away!!

Mimi

I bet the 'weeds' sure will Tim  ::)
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

I think you are right. My patch is still quite bare as I dare not put anything tender into the ground.
Hope June is better off to France 090605

i am pretty sure spring will hit on monday and everything will go mad, this is because i am away all week  :D

Feel the same way, as my beds are looking quite empty.  The Man next door to me put his peas in last week and they are looking in a very sorry state.  Will have to take the plunge soon though and get some things in, so I hope the weather starts to stabilise.  At least there seem to be less aphids round this year because of the cold icy winds.  :) busy_lizzie

Our allotments are on really exposed site. Some things like Potato, Onion & Garlic  are making a living but everything else is looking really poor. Those things I have since fleeced over or have under a cloche are getting going but I what does one do once they have out grown the cloches? I would settle for the the wind abating because the sun is really hot where it is sheltered.
I haven't said this before but I'm going to say it now..I like double digging!

Don't suppose there's any chance of you being away all summer? ;) ;D ::)

Only got potato, onion & garlic in. I've now got an excuse why I haven't started anything of - the weather has been shocking & the plot has a lot of water. The men keep telling us to move to a better plot - probably on account they've all found it too much like hard work and given up. ;) It probably is a good job I wasn't more organised  because i would have been stuck with a load of plants that I couldn't put in the grown.

I always go away at the beginning of May and normally have a job tackling the weeds. But this year I was pleasantly surprised with the lack of weeding I was faced with on my return. Just a shame the veggies aren't hardier than the weeds in this respect.  :D

Hi all,  :D
As a counter to all your moans ::) , We have been feasting on cut & come again salad leaves for the last 3 weeks 8), we have been pulling early turnips for 2 weeks  8) (lovely sliced in salads)  the  peas are a foot tall romping up the sticks,
the broad beans are all starting to form pods  8)  the runner beans were planted out yesterday  8) .  We are in the south east  where it has been cold windy & dry  but whats the problem ???

Green with envy Adrian.  My  mixed salad leaves came up then got knobbled by an unexpected frost.   ::) busy_lizzie

(Hello again everyone - just recovered from a computer meltdown...!)

I think it's the contrast with last year that's a bit hard to take, Adrian. I'd managed most of what you have this year by the middle of April last year. I've had a few weeks of waiting to get things planted out which has felt interminable!

Only this week do the less hardy plants look like they're 'getting away'. The growing season feels like it's going to be a bit compressed this time round...

I just wanted to reiterate Stephan's original question: which is unusual this year or last year??
I travelled to a mystical time zone
but I missed my bed

...or global dimming...

that's why my aubergine plants are still only a few inches high. Honest.

My strongest beehive is bringing in loads of honey already. Last year was lousy. You never can tell.

Marianne

Well we are in the south east but today it rained .... NO! It was a monsoon !!!!!! NEVER seen so much rain but the plants like it.

The radishes are fattening up the the lettuces are growing taller every day,  So come on with the rain!!

Enjoy today to the full.  You are not sure of a tomorrow.

A neighbour told me today she'd heard a weather prediction that on or about August 12th the temperature will hit 103 degrees. Get those melons in, folks!
