Hello everyone. I'm very new to gardening and have some raspberries which have developed bright orange tiny spots on them. I have checked the fruit expert but can't seem to find anything like it.

Does anyone know what this is and can I cure them or have I lost my raspberries. They are just beginning to fruit aswell!!

Many thanks

Linda

could it be rust?  I'm afraid I don't know how to treat it though.

Where are the 'spots'? On the fruit, leaves or stem or everywhere?

Hello

The spots are mainly on the leaves.

Thanks
Linda

The difference between a virus attack which shows on the leaves, and a mite attack are very much the same to the untrained eye. A bug/mite attack can be controlled by spraying, a viral attack needs more drastic action which includes taken out the infected plants and all those close by. The removed plants must be burnt and any new (certified) stock should be planted at least 50ft away. What you should first do if you can't find a way to identify exactly what the problem is, is to treat for mite infestation. If there is no noticable improvement within 2/3 weeks, then it probably is viral.
