Lilac lurgy

No, not frost damage, nor insect, nor drought. This is the way a lilac goes when attacked by a rather nasty virus Syringa something or other. We chopped it to the ground 2 years ago to try to remove the virus which is supposed to only live in the top of the stems, but as you can see it did not work. Almost every stem is like this. We will have to remove the whole bush, though the stem is a good foot across at ground level. BUT what I would like to know is, if this will move on to the other lilacs in the garden, especially the S. meyeri Palibin and Miss Kim?
