My OH, who prides himself on his compost making skills, found some old mushrooms I was about to bin. He said I should pit them on his compost heap but I'm sure Monty Don warned me off this idea, what with spores, fungi etc. Any Views from the experts out there?

If it's organic, you can compost it.

The worst that can happen is that you have a crop of mushrooms

I put them in. Never had a problem.

THe only time I've had mushrooms growing in the garden was when they grew out of the manure I mixed in!

Thanks to everyone who answered.  I concede defeat and will bow to all your advice. From now on all manky mushrooms will go on the compost.  ;D busy_lizzie
