Well, mine has been sooooooo slow in poking through, I guess because I planted the crowns quite deeply, covered the 'grave' with a thick layer of leaf mould, and because the patch is in dappled shade, HOWEVER, today I cut my first ever home grown spear of asparagus, rushed home, had it in a pan of boiling water within 10 minutes of cutting it, cooked until only just soft, and enjoyed, all on my own, in an empty house, with a big dollop of butter.  What a difference to supermarket/farmshop asparagus.  The flavour was delicate, yet definate.  Delish!  Okay, so everything else is going and I am just going to grown asparagus!!!! ;D

Nice one EJ! One of life's great pleasures :)
My Asparagus bed took months to prepare from a Bindweed infested field. My 1 year old crowns are doing their bit and so far I have 16 out of 20 crowns sending up delicate little spears. Can't wait till next year when I will be able to pick a couple to eat. Here in South Somerset, there is a very good local Organic nursery and last week I ordered some freshly cut spears   £5.50 for 500 grams :o  can you believe it?  At least the rest of my lottie will be earning it's keep this year  ;D
Good luck with the rest of your crop.

I said it last year, and I'll say it again - find a pick your own!  ;D £3.50 per kilo at my local one  ;D ;D ;D

Good effort EJ  :) bet that one spear tasted truly divine  ;D
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.
