Please can somebody help me with coriander? I love the stuff but cannot get it to grow successfully. I sow in ordinary compost and it germinates O.K. but when it is about 2/3" high it starts to lose its green colour and turn yellow. :'(

What conditions are you growing them in?
Are you growing them in trays or pots?

Wow that was quick S-S  thanks.
I am sowing in pots about 3/4 seeds to the pot on the window sill in the kitchen, facing south west.

It may be many things. It may be to warm in you kitchen. Try to sow some again and as soon as they appear put them outdoors in a sheltered place.

PS When I was young we used to sow the seed straight outside and it grew like a weed. Not grown it in ages might try some! I will sow some tommorow.

Thanks. That is what I may be doing wrong. I thought it would be too cold to sow them in my potting shed on the allotment, as I thought they were a warm weather herb :-[

I would try some outside. I am going to put some in trays in the greenhouse and some outdoors in lets say the middle of may when it should be nice and warm outside.

My experience of sowing coriander inside/in pots/or any other gentle treatment?  As soon as the young plants experience the "temperate" joys of early summer in Yorkshire May, they panic - and set flower and seed instead.

I'd sow outside - and a really daft idea?  They are a lot hardier than the packets give them credit for?  Self-seeded plants seem to give a much better crop of leaves - sowing in autumn gives a much better crop?

Just a thought - after yet another mild winter :)

All best - Gavin
