Plocket

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard.
My kids see flowers for mum and blowing white fluff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who probably wants money and I look away.
My kids see someone smiling at them and they smile back.

When I hear music I love, I know I can’t carry a tune and don’t have much rhythm so I sit self-consciously and listen.
My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing out the words. If they don’t know them, they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk.
My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it, until they fall to the ground laughing.

When I pray, I say thee and thou and grant me this, give me that.
My kids say ”Hi God! Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight. Sorry I don’t want to go to Heaven yet. I would miss my mummy and daddy.”

When I see a mud puddle I step around it. I see muddy shoes and dirty carpets.
My kids sit in it. They see dams to build, rivers to cross and worms to play with.

I wonder if we are given kids to teach or to learn from?
Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realise they were the big things.
I wish you Big Mud Puddles and Sunny Yellow Dandelions!

I liked that too. Thanks Plocket. In a whirl of a week, gave me something to think and smile about. Of course us gardeners always can find that.......CLx

That was great Plocket, reminded me of last weekend, kids were "playing" cave girl at the bottom of the garden, (they would hate me to say they were playing at their age! :o ) and OH was moaning cos they were painting themselves with mud patterns, and were trying (under my watchful eye) to build a fire to cook a pot they had sorted on, and making a general mess! I was just looking at them and said to OH, it is not going to last much longer, let em get good and messy, at least they are enjoying them selves! Was fun to watch! ;D
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

Yep you should always let the kids get messy and enjoy themselves, clothes and kids can always be washed  ;D

Couldn't agree more that kids should be able to get messy - what are washing machines and showers for, after all? HOWEVER there was one occasion when my kids and their cousins, aged about 10-12, asked my sister and me if they could mark out a roller hockey pitch in the yard - "There's some paint in the shed" they said. "Oh yes" we said blithely, and off they scampered.

A couple of hours later they appeared again, very proud of their handiwork, but mystified by our unison scream. The 'paint in the shed' was red gloss - and they and their clothes were covered in it!

BAGGY

I am a cub scout leader and it is the LAW to get messy on camp.  We tell the parents to pack jumble sale clothes and we dump them before they come home.  Camp wouldn't be camp without mud slides and water fights.  (leaders included)

I thought that was really lovely Plocket.   :)

It's sad that when you are young you want to be a grown up.  If only you could see then that your childhood days are too short maybe you wouldn't be in such a hurry  :'(

I want to join the Scouts!!! Is there a similar group for adults?
