Roman Chamomile

I started some chamomile in Feb (roman, it says it'll be about 4" high) - it was soooo tiny that when pricking out into 3" pots, I wasn't so sure of survival rates so I ended up putting 9 seedlings in each pot!  :o I then put them in my cold frame where they've been happily growing for the past few weeks. Problem is that they are now getting crowded (indeed the roots are coming through the bottom of the 3" pots), so I thought I'd pot them up individually. (I separated several of them yesyerday and put them with a modest sized rootball each, in a very large container, where they are looking quite shell shocked today - I guess the transplanting was quite tough for them so I hope they recover  :-[  If any one has had some experience with chamomile would really appreciate knowing whether they could survive a transplanting at this stage (each seedling has several small leaves and is about 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches in height) into individual pots, or whether I'm just better off potting on into larger containers for the time being?  ??? Many thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Whenever I have purchased chamomile there always seems to be loads of plants crammed into one pot.  I have bought a couple and litterally torn them apart to split them, and they sulk for a week, but with a drop of water and some stern talking to, they soon perk up.  The bees so love it!  That and oregano I love in the garden!  I am sure it will be alright, but maybe next time, only bung 3 in a pot!  ;)

thx Emma Jane! I feel much better having heard that! :D I will start the transplanting process tommorrow at 6am (before work) - with 100 plants ahead of me, this may take some time....   :)

Hello

I bought some a couple of years ago, and it has appeared all round the garden, must have self-seeded somehow?!  So don't be surprised if that happens once it is established in your garden...  :)

Get it in the garden and just make sure you don't walk on it until it gets going and then keep walking over it to a minimum.  It loves it out there and will reward you 100 fold!
