What do people use to support tall sunflowers?

I grow mine in open ground in a block, sort of, if they escape the slugs and badgers then they don't need support - even the ten foot tall ones. My biggest problem is getting the root ball out afterwards!

I've never had the courage to do that Small, but have amassed enough self-saved seeds so may give it a try this year... we are in the Yellow Book again, and hopefully by Sunflower Season will be able to open for visitors!
