Dividing strawberry plants

We bought some Alpine strawberry plants over 2 years ago and now only 2 plants remain.  However, I think I can divide them into 4 plants each to get 8.  What sort of soil should I pot them up in for over winter?

I suggest you use a multipurpose compost with added sharp sand or grit to ensure good drainage.
They will benefit from a 'quiet' position while they grow more roots and establish during the winter season.
