I grew a small variety this year and they are coming on lovely, do you think they would be alright to use now in a charred vegetable soup instead of a squash which we still have to buy as the squashes are not ready yet.

Just to let you know, it was rubbish, just like a marrow tasteless.

What was it?  I've grown those patty Pan thingies before and they're utterly tasteless.  Better off using small but normal courgettes than those and waiting patiently for proper squashes in autumn.

it was a mini pumpkin at least that is what it said on the packet. about 5 or 6 inches across. The flesh was white so we will try again in the autumn when they are usually picked. The idea was to roast it along with a load of other veggies and then blend them for soup. Looking up ideas on the internet I came across stuffed mini pumpkins so we tried that instead, turned out like a wet stuffed marrow that watered down the taste of all the filling, the dogs like it though.

Perhaps they need to cure to build up the sugars.  Or perhaps they are tasteless.
