Amazed by blackcurrant

Put a twig to root.  The leaves all fell off.  Looked a goner.  Kept watering it.

Then suddenly the buds have sprouted and there are several tiny leaves.   

The ones roots two years ago have fruited not a lot but very welcome.  But they have now grown a couple of feet so look very promising for next year.  Have put in more to root.

Several of the ones I had rooted previously disappeared.  They were about a foot a part but now there are several spaces.    I know they had rooted, and if they had died the twig would still be there.
