multicolour craft sticks for mixed planting.

I was in craft store other day and they had 300 pack of craft sticks similar ice lolly stick but they were six different colours.
I got the idea coating them with clear water proof paint or oil then using them to pre-mark where  I planned to plant
out seeds in mixed planted bed.  Seem like easy way to preplan how to plant out a bed that is a mix of several different small space veg. It just seems easier them label each plant with several different type one bed. I was going to use old poker chips but they might not stay in same place as craft stick since they sit on soil surface..
