I have managed to grow some good sweet potato slips and intend to grow sweet potatoes in containers in the greenhouse. How many slips should I plant in what size container. This will be my first ever attempt at growing sweet potatoes and I am totally clueless😐

I would put two, or three at the most in a plastic dustbin...

Well done on growing your own slips, as its not that easy. I have grown slips a few times but have never had a decent sized crop outside, perhaps I should have tried containers in the greenhouse.

Does anybody know of a cheap supplier of slips?

I think Thompson and Morgan sell sweet potato plug plants. I wish I'd started mine earlier as they were very slow to get going. I will be growing them in the greenhouse and try saddads suggestion of three to a dustbin. I love trying new things especially things you can't see until harvest...although it can be a bit of a dissapointment when it doesn't work.

Plot22

I have tried them for the last 2 years outside in the allotment. The 1st year was slips from T&M and the 2nd year was from my own slips . On both occasions I was not very successful . The potatoes seem to attract slugs like there is no tomorrow. I have not bothered growing in our greenhouse at home as once my veg plants are out then my wife takes it over with tomatoes ,chillies cucumber etc. I am always trying new things but have come to the conclusion that they are not worth the effort. In fact Monty answered a readers question in the Saturday Mail a few weeks ago by saying they are for hot climate only. Having said that I hope that you have success in the your greenhouse trials. I would certainly not put more than 2 in a dustbin size bucket the foliage is very rampant and don't forget the slug pellets.

I will certainly report back at the end of the season.

A dustbin each, if you have the space and the compost... I have three in each...
