I have a Red Currant bush absolutely loaded with ripe fruit at the moment. How do you use yours? apart from jelly that is.

Not really an alternative use, but I mix the jelly in with other fruits which are a bit seedy like raspberries.

Summer pudding, mixed with other red berries - Yummmm!

I make red currant jelly just like jam, it make a nice delicate flavoured jam/jelly I believe some folk have it with cold meats and cheese, though personally not tried it that way.

I make some jars of jelly, save some for summer puddings and eat a lot fresh - together with eggedosis (an egg whipped up to a custardy froth with some sugar).

Couldn't tell you.  Natures animals beat me every year even when they have been netted.  If I get none this year the plants are coming out.  Heavily laden each year but pig sick of trying now. Looking to use the space for extra strawberries.

Another red currant jelly lover here. They are also great kept frozen for adding to summer puddings and mixed berry crumble. I made some wine a few years back which turned out quite well.

I have never made wine from red currants, I have plenty so will give it a try   How many pounds to the gallon do you think ? I used about three for the black currant wine I think, it was a few years back though.
