Let me tell you a story

I have been reading all the problems some people are having and  like them I have been having some too.

Then there are the photos of our allotments that many people  are sending in and I  haven't done so this year yet, well that is untill now that is.

I don't consider it a lot, in fact I would say I have less on the go at the moment than I did at this time last year.

When you consider I help to feed three families ( 10 people) and I try to have something to harvest for most of the year, I need quite a lot.

Usually I can pick something for 9-10 months of the year, last year it was 11 months.

Then when I have a glut of something, like now I have lots of Calabrese ready,  I give the newbies on the plot a sample  to give them a bit of encouragement.

We like to give away any glut to newbies, to keep them interested... and if they settle in well they pass things back when they make it ...

Ah! Growing veggies for 10 people must be a labour of love TeeGee and very satisfying too.

I have just four small raised beds and still find that I have a surplus of beans, courgettes, cucumbers, squashes and apples at various times to distribute among my friends and neighbours. I just love to see the amazing results from the seeds I have sown early in the year and to have my freezer chock full at the end of the season.

Well done, you set yourself very high standards.  Interesting Blog.  This season has been slow here to get started I am sure it will pick up.

I'm sure your days must have more than 24 hours in them, TeeGee- how you have time to write a blog as well as look after two amazing allotments I cannot imagine!

I think it is a good thing to give excess produce away. My wife and my self are more or less self sufficient veg wise. She only had to buy potatoes for a couple of weeks this year and onions for a month. I help to feed 9 relatives some on their own some with families plus the post lady and some ex work mates all get a share. All I ever ask is a thank you and please save me your carrier bags, no bags no veg. There are times that you just do not know what to do with the excess and the recipients all seem to enjoy it.
