I have just been given one of these. I should fill up over next winter from the shed guttering. It has been purged of anything nasty and I saved it from going to the tip.

How lucky are you!  Have a look at google what these normally cost!   

However, because they are white plastic and let the light through, you will get algae.  If that bothers you, a surround of black plastic or painting the tank black, will stop algal growth.

These things are ace ACE!  Well done.  Another great way of stopping algal growth in it is to drop a small piece of copper plumbing piping offcut in to the tank which has kept mine green-free for 3 years.
