This plant appeared in one of my pots, does anyone know what it is please?

The leaves are fairly broad and have like small, dark brown (sort of) rectangles and it is about 7 inches tall.

It's an orchid! Very pretty - and most unusual to find it growing spontaneously in a pot. I illustrated orchids at Kew for ten years, but not this one. Genus Dactylorhiza  probably.

An orchid?  How exciting!

I think it's very pretty too. Thank you so much for the information.

Now, I'm going to look it up hoping that I'll be able to keep it going.  THANKS AGAIN!

Is this an orchid too?  Hiding among my hostas

I'm no expert, but that looks like a spotted orchid to me. I'm sure someone much more knowledgable than me will be along to correct me though! ;)

It's definitely an orchid, but I don't know either species. Where did the plants come from?

Lovely plants but i,am not so lucky to find anything so lovely in my potted  plants, only weeds :BangHead:

I presume it's a gift from the birds, Robert. It wasn't in the pot last year and I haven't planted it.

They take several years to reach flowering size from a microscopic seed, so it's a bit of a mystery!
