Not sure if this is the right forum for this subject. I fancy havinga go at growing show carrots for our allotment show. I have read lots of articles all about growing them in compost hollowed out in sharp sand. What bewilders me is the different fertilisers that you should add to the compost. Has anyone got a tried and tested method, I'd be greatful for any advice.

I like the YouTUbes by "allotmentdiary". He makes no secret of his mixes etc and shares techniques and so on.

Ingredients are on his website:

http://allotment-diary.co.uk/Exhibition-vegetable-growing-guide-2014.html

30 Litres of Levingtons F2+S Compost riddled through 5mm sieve.
5 oz powdered Calcified Seaweed
48g Superphosphates.

and he has a YouTube of his preparation, using a cement mixer!, here:

Many exhibitors grow carrots in large containers using ordinary general compost with added slow release fertilizer with excellent results.
