Plant ideas for a low border edging

I need some ideas for suitable plants to create a low hedge or permanent edging along the front of a bed. DDon't want box, lavender or conifers and the plants mus be able to take pruning to keep the edging narrow. Evergreen ideally. Site is an exposed sunny border on dry chalky soil. Any ideas. Thanks.

Have you considered using Rosemary. Cheap to propagate and resistant to regular pruning/harvesting.
