Just as proof that there is life outside of the allotment fence, I have committed myself to yet another guitar gig.
Those who already know me will understand my passion for the classical guitar. A local guitar class that I attend are putting on a gig (again) in order to give the players experience of that difficult problem of actually performing on stage to an audience. I naturally volunteered and offered to do the opening hour (!), and have put together a programme of new material, with some favourites, encompassing classical and contemporary English, Spanish and Latin numbers. The other players will be covering a range of different styles including rock, folk, country etc etc. The venue is the Police Social Club, Coventry, 7pm - late, Friday 18th March. I know everyone who is involved is very excited, albeit a little anxious as well. As an added bonus, my younger son (18 yrs) wants to come along, as he plays a little bit and is curious . . . I have tasked him to take a few photos.

As a result, I won't be around on friday night to chat, but will update peeps asap.

Excellent Derek!  Very brave also.  When I played the piano, I was talking into doing a couple of performances for Suttons Mayor, nervous wreck, but there is nothing quite like that feeling when you have finished your set and everyone is applauding your music!  Just wish we were closer as I would love to hear you play!  I know you will enjoy, and look forward to seeing some photos.

Great news Derek!  :D Hope it goes really well but I'm sure it will.  Have a great evening and, with any luck, your son will carry on the family tradition!!!  :D :D :D

GIG REPORT

The night went very well, including my own performance, but I must admit that it was definitely an experience!

As I was performing first, the equipment was still being installed around me, as people arrived. Rather distracting when trying to steer through the nuances of some of the classical stuff! To cap it, during my rendition of Giuliani's Andante in C (Tales of the Riverbank), which is PARTICULARLY challenging, one of the guys starts checking his amplifier out and doing sound checks, including testing mike feedback etc ! ! !
When I finished that piece, I insisted the audience give a round of applause to that 'engineer' for his rudeness. Other than that, I remained calm and played for a full hour before my fingers finally sagged.
Everyone else played really well, the standard was staggering.
My son really enjoyed himself and managed to get several pictures, some of which I will post when I get them. We arrived home at 01:45.

Finally, thank you to everyone who wished me well, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I'm glad it went well!  Its always nerve wracking performing isn't it.  I've done it hundreds of times and it never gets any easier!  Doing soundchecks through your set is unbelievable!
